  • Take a day (or more!) visiting a few of the 140 wineries located in the surrounding six American Viticultural Areas.
  • Only 45 minutes away, make your way to the city of Portland and see the International Rose Garden, Japanese Garden and experience the city’s urban quirkiness, including numerous food carts, unique restaurants and breweries, and Powell’s Bookstore.
  • Head for the rugged Oregon Coast and take the gorgeous drive up the coast on US-101; stop at Newport and visit the Oregon Coast Aquarium, or at Tillamook, famous for its cheese and ice cream.
  • Love the great outdoors? The Columbia River Gorge with all its wonderful waterfalls, including Multnomah Falls, has lots of great hikes and scenic views to offer.

What can you do in Chimayo? Here are just a few ideas:

  • Head to Taos and spend a day visiting its many shops, restaurants and art galleries. Don’t forget to stop by the famous Taos Pueblo!
  • Love to hike? Bandelier National Park is 40 minutes away and features the ruins of magnificent ancient cliff dwellings as well as great hiking trails.
  • The eight Northern New Mexico Indian Pueblos (Taos, Picuris, San Juan, Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, Nambe, Pojoaque and Tesuque) are all an easy drive from Chimayo. Experience their culture, arts, food, and language.
  • Spend a relaxing day at the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs, where you can be pampered with a massage.
  • Take the Enchanted Circle Drive; it begins in Taos and ends in Taos. This is one of New Mexico’s most scenic drives!

What can you do in Monterey? Here are just a few ideas:

  • Drive down Highway 1 along the Pacific Coast/Big Sur. You can actually drive all the way to San Simeon State Park and the Hearst Castle in a day!
  • Wine tasting out on Carmel Valley Road.
  • Start with the 17-Mile Drive, drop into Carmel-by-the-Sea (shops, galleries, restaurants) and then visit the Carmel Mission.
  • Some of the best golfing in the world is located right here on the Monterey Peninsula; make a day of it!
  • Hike through the redwoods or to the waterfalls of Big Sur. Afterwards, grab lunch at one of the cliff-top restaurants overlooking Highway 1.
  • Spend all day at the beach, of course!
